LG forges AI partnership with Microsoft

LG Electronics, a leading South Korean technology firm, has recently entered into a strategic partnership with Microsoft Corporation to bolster their joint efforts in artificial intelligence (AI). This collaboration was formalized during a meeting between LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella at Microsoft's headquarters in Washington, D.C., on Monday. Other top executives from LG's major affiliates were also present at the meeting.

The primary objective of this partnership is to commercialize AI data centers jointly. Microsoft plans to expand its AI data center footprint across the globe. In the near term, the companies will explore supplying high-capacity cooling solutions for Microsoft's key strategic data center locations. This is because AI data centers, which are equipped with numerous high-performance graphics processing units (GPUs), require significantly more power and generate far more heat compared to conventional data centers.

Both companies will also expand their collaboration in physical AI, which involves applying AI technologies to various sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and mobility. LG will leverage Microsoft's high-performance cloud infrastructure to expedite the development and training of AI models specifically designed for use in physical environments.
