Leaders of Korea, Australia agree to boost cooperation for stable energy supply

South Korean President Lee Jae Myung met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in New York on Tuesday, agreeing to bolster cooperation to ensure a stable energy supply across the region. According to Lee's senior secretary for public affairs, Seong Ghi-hong, the leaders met during the United Nations General Assembly.

During the summit, the two leaders engaged in an open discussion about their bilateral relations, energy supply chains, defense industry collaboration, and the current international security landscape. Seong emphasized that the leaders reaffirmed the importance of South Korea and Australia as critical partners, relying on each other for energy resources like liquefied natural gas and petroleum products as they tackle the energy crisis caused by the Middle East conflict.

Furthermore, the leaders resolved to work closely together to create stable and resilient regional supply chains, according to Seong. Australian Prime Minister Albanese described South Korea as a reliable partner in the critical minerals and clean energy sectors.
