The drone remained near the base for approximately five minutes before it departed.

This incident echoes a similar event in September 2025, where around 19 Russian drones entered Polish airspace, with Poland managing to shoot down only four of them using modern F-16 and F-35 fighter jets.

The base, which houses the US Navy's Aegis Ashore installation, has been a subject of concern regarding its protection from aerial threats. Poland bears primary responsibility for its security, and a dedicated unit has been assigned. While details regarding the use of anti-drone systems at the base remain undisclosed for security reasons, the Polish Defense Ministry emphasized the seriousness with which they treat instances of unauthorized drone activity near guarded sites.

European intelligence officials are increasingly worried about the potential for Russia to test NATO's defenses, with a threat possibly unfolding "within months, not years." The Redzikowo incident, along with a similar event in 2025, has fueled doubts about NATO's resolve and readiness. Prime Minister Donald Tusk has warned that Russia's plans may include drone and missile strikes on countries supporting Ukraine, potentially disguised as accidental attacks to test the effectiveness of Article 5.
