Labourer’s Neck Trapped Between Wooden Planks Under Bridge, Dies In MP’s Rajgarh

A 28-year-old labourer named Birum Mogi died after his neck became trapped between wooden planks while installing them under a bridge over the Gadganga River in Khilchipur, Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district, on Tuesday. The unfortunate incident occurred when Mogi, a resident of Thawariya Bazaar, began the work to install planks in the river drains to stop water flow ahead of the Jal Jhulni Gyaras celebrations. Mogi left his home at 8 am for work. His family was informed of his fall into the river at 10.30 am.

Rescue operations were initiated by police and administrative officials, but initial attempts to pull him out using ropes and bamboo poles were unsuccessful due to the strong current. A JCB was subsequently employed to remove the planks. After the planks were removed, another laborer and an SDRF personnel entered the structure to access Mogi.

His neck was discovered wedged between two planks; once they were taken out, his body was swept away by the current and recovered approximately 50 feet downstream. The body was sent to Khilchipur Civil Hospital.

Local residents alleged that neither municipal officials nor the contractor were present at the site during the work and that workers had not been provided with safety equipment or life jackets. The family refused to accept the body and demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) deployed 174 divers at Bhopal ghats for the immersion of Ganesh idols.
