This achievement further solidified Root's position as one of the most prolific run-scorers in international cricket.

Root opened the batting in the match, starting with just three runs. He concluded his century with a boundary, securing his milestone with a score of 23,003 runs in 394 matches. This accomplishment places him eighth on the all-time list of most international runs across formats, with an impressive career average of 49.88 and 61 centuries to his name.

While Root's milestone is notable, it trails behind the Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar's record of 34,357 runs. Virat Kohli currently holds the record for the fastest batsman to reach 23,000 runs, achieving the feat in just 490 innings. Root joins an elite group of batsmen who have reached this milestone, including Tendulkar, Kohli, Kumar Sangakkara, Ricky Ponting, Mahela Jayawardene, Jacques Kallis, and Rahul Dravid.
