Jet Greaves remains calm, cool and collected for Columbus Blue Jackets

Less than a week into Columbus Blue Jackets training camp, goaltender Jet Greives has already demonstrated his ability to remain composed amidst heightened expectations. Instead of succumbing to pressure, he secured a $5 million salary increase through negotiations that nearly forced him to face an arbitration hearing – a first for the franchise.

The deal, totaling $15 million over the season, represents a $4.2 million per-season increase. Despite his new salary and elevated status, Greives has maintained his cool demeanor throughout training camp, participating in practice drills, scrimmages, and the Blue Jackets' 1-0 victory over the Detroit Red Wings in their preseason opener at Nationwide Arena.

He attributed his calm demeanor to his additional experience, emphasizing that he is "fortunate to have a little more experience now" and that "every day I come to the rink, it's about improving, learning, and enjoying being at the rink." Greives' composed performance was evident during the Red Wings' first two periods, where he faced 16 shots while the Red Wings outshot the Blue Jackets 11-3.

Despite being undersized, Greives showcased his resilience, stating that he enjoys being back with his teammates and being ready for the upcoming season. With the NHL's new 84-game schedule and reduced preseason games, Greives will only have one more preseason start before the regular season begins. He is prepared to dive straight into games once the season starts and is ready to focus on the main event.
