Jaxson Dart injury: Giants’ QB could miss the remainder of the 2026 season

Quarterback Jaxson Dart of the New York Giants suffered a more severe knee injury than initially reported after being injured during Monday night's game against the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL insiders Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport. The MRI results have confirmed that the injury to Dart's left knee is more serious than a sprained MCL.

As a result, Dart may miss the entire 2026 season. Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that evaluations are ongoing and that he is not commenting on the various reports surrounding Dart's injury. Dart was injured on the Giants' opening drive of the game, while attempting to throw a pass to tight end Theo Johnson. He was sandwiched between defensive players Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart, resulting in an awkward inversion of his left knee.

Initially, the injury was thought to be a sprained MCL, but now it appears to be a more significant issue. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported that Dart could require surgery. The Giants, who were previously seen as potential playoff contenders, now face the possibility of relying on backup quarterback Jameis Winston for the remainder of the season.

The team has also practice quarterback Jake Haener and could consider bringing back Brandon Allen as a third quarterback option, or look for another quarterback from outside the organization.
