James Gunn Effectively Confirms Hal Jordan Is Alive In ‘Lanterns’
Despite being dead, Hal Jordan may be alive. DCU head James Gunn as said as much on social media responding to fan criticism about his storyline.
DC Universe co-CEO James Gunn has responded to criticism over the killing of Hal Jordan in the HBO series Lanterns. The first episode of the show showed a murdered Hal Jordan with a hole in his head, which sparked backlash from fans who had been waiting years for a live-action depiction of the character. Despite the criticism, Gunn defended the decision, stating that Hal Jordan is the star of the series and has already had more screen time in the show than he had in all previous live-action appearances.
He also clarified that the timing of Hal's death is not the same as killing him off right away. Fans are divided on the issue, with some believing that Hal is still alive and that the frozen corpse shown in the first episode was a copy. Gunn's comments suggest that he sees Hal Jordan's portrayal in Lanterns as a positive for the DC Universe, and it is possible that Chandler's performance could lead to more opportunities for the character in future projects.
