J.J. Spaun gets a Presidents Cup snub and then a big win in Europe

Medinah, Illinois witnessed a Presidents Cup snub followed by a triumphant victory on the European golf circuit. Brandt Snedeker, the Presidents Cup captain, did not select J.J. Spaun to participate despite Spaun's recent successes. Spaun, the 2025 U.S. Open champion and Texas Open winner, expressed surprise and disappointment over being left off the U.S. team.

Spaun, known to be referred to as "the odd man out," turned his disappointment into determination. At the BMW PGA Championship in England, he birdied four of his last five holes to secure a victory, becoming only the third American to win Europe's prestigious event. This win propelled Spaun to No. 12 in the world rankings. Despite Snedeker's apology and reassurance, Spaun remained resolute, stating he would not be affected by the snub and would return stronger in the future.

Snedeker, while acknowledging the snub, showed his support by calling Spaun immediately after the tournament, expressing his regret and wishing Spaun luck. The Canadian rookie, who had previously qualified for the Presidents Cup, got his chance to play after Spaun's victory.
