Israel Football Association cites Nobel Prize winners in rant at Ireland coach

The Israel Football Association (IFA) has publicly criticized Ireland's head coach Heimir Hallgrimsson, accusing him of "stupidity, ignorance and hypocrisy." The IFA's statement came after Hallgrimsson's remarks about the upcoming UEFA Nations League tournament, where Ireland and Israel are set to face off. Hallgrimsson stated, "We are not playing with genocide, we are playing against genocide; we are playing against Israel, we are not playing with Israel."

The Nations League kicks off this week, with Ireland playing Israel in Debrecen, Hungary, on September 27 and then in Backa Topola, Serbia, on October 4. The IFA's social media post also highlighted the "impressive number of Nobel Prizes" earned by Israelis, implying that Hallgrimsson's comments reflect poorly on Israeli society.

This incident comes amid ongoing debates and campaigns in Ireland to protest Ireland's scheduled match against Israel, with over 160 high-level athletes signing an open letter urging the team to refuse participation in the game.
