Islamabad, Rawalpindi brace for PTI, JI protests as security preparations intensify

Islamabad and Rawalpindi residents brace for potential clashes as police prepare for anticipated protests. Over 2,000 containers have been deployed at crucial locations in the capital and Attock, a bridge connecting Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The Islamabad police have requested Rs827 million to cover expenses related to the opposition parties' planned protests, including accommodation, food, transportation, and anti-riot equipment.

Authorities anticipate between 20,000 to 25,000 protesters, with the PTI's long march expected to commence from various locations across the country on September 27 and potentially reach Islamabad within three to four days. Security arrangements are set to be in place by September 26 evening, and may persist for about a week. Educational institutions have been requisitioned for police accommodation, and extensive security measures are being implemented in Rawalpindi's Red Zone, including the establishment of nine police pickets and tightening security along GT Road and motorway routes.
