'In another galaxy' - La Liga chief dismisses Real's ref conspiracy claims

La Liga president Javier Tebas dismissed claims that there is a refereeing conspiracy against Real Madrid, likening the notion to living in "another galaxy". Real Madrid manager Jose Mourinho had previously accused officials of making key errors after his team lost 2-1 to Atletico Madrid. Mourinho presented printouts of screenshots to the media, claiming Atletico should have been awarded two red cards in the first half.

Tebas responded to a Spanish media article alleging a conspiracy against Real, stating that such a narrative is an "excuse to cover up other shortcomings". He added that it is more comfortable to blame a conspiracy than to explain the incidents on the pitch. Real Madrid currently sits fourth in La Liga, six points behind leaders Barcelona, who have won all seven of their league games this season.

Following their defeat by Atletico, where defender Dean Huijsen received a red card, Mourinho blamed the officiating, fearing what a 11 vs 9 match might have entailed. Tebas has previously criticized Real and its president Florentino Perez for their stance on joining a European Super League in 2021. In 2025, Tebas described Real as having "lost their head" after the club sent a formal complaint to the Spanish FA regarding officiating in the league.
