Imo community seeks action over insecurity, bad roads

Residents of Nsokpo Community in Imo State have called on the state government to take immediate action to tackle the rising insecurity and poor road conditions affecting their area. The plea was made in a statement released by the Nsokpo Dynamic Association, a group of young professionals, and signed by President Onyejiaka Mark and Secretary-General Chukwudi Ohiri.

The group claims that Nsokpo has been plagued by kidnappings and armed attacks in recent months, which they attribute to suspected herders and other criminals operating in the surrounding bushland. These incidents have disrupted daily life, with farmers hesitant to tend their fields, traders closing early, and parents keeping children indoors early.

The statement outlined the community's demand for sustained security patrols, both day and night, to prevent further attacks. They also urged the government to coordinate a security operation targeting the Nwaogwugwu land and bush areas between Ogbaku and Umunoha, as well as the surrounding bush regions. Additionally, they requested support for community policing efforts, including resources for local vigilante groups.

The association emphasized the importance of securing the community to protect the route to Owerri, the state capital, and ensure residents' safety and economic activities.
