IIT Bombay suicide: CCTV of Sahil being asked to leave exam hall emerges; crucial to probe

According to sources, CCTV footage from IIT-Bombay has emerged, showing Professor Suryanarayana Doolla allegedly asking second-year student Sahil Wakode to leave the examination hall. The footage, captured between 12:30 pm and 12:45 pm, reportedly shows Wakode peeping at something in his pocket, prompting the professor to question him. Afterward, Wakode is seen exiting the examination hall and entering his hostel room around 1:25 pm, according to the CCTV footage.

The Crime Branch team, led by ACP Dharamveer Bansod, will analyze the footage to aid the police investigation into Wakode's suicide. So far, no suicide note has been found, but the police team has collected all paperwork from the Powai police station where the First Information Report (FIR) was initially registered. They have also taken CCTV camera footage and other relevant materials from Wakode's hostel room.

Wakode's father, Ravindra, had previously filed a complaint against Doolla, alleging caste-based discrimination against his son for the past three months, allegedly at the behest of the IIT-Bombay Director. The police have named Doolla, along with others, in the FIR under charges of abetment to suicide and various sections of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
