Sungai Siput: Joe Zamberi, 23, was strolling ahead of his father when he heard a scream. Turning around, Joe witnessed a tiger attacking his father in Kampung Takung, Pos Perwor, yesterday. Joe and Zamberi Angah, his father, had ventured to Korbu Forest Reserve around 8am to gather rattan before heading home at 3pm. Joe recounted, "I heard my father scream.
I turned around and screamed too. Then it (the tiger) dragged my father away." Panicked, Joe ran and immediately alerted the villagers upon reaching home. Though still shaken, Joe found it challenging to recount the incident. When asked about his relationship with his father, Joe grew emotional, expressing their closeness before he was unable to continue speaking.
Zamberi, 42, was discovered deceased at 6.58pm in a bamboo grove near a logging road, approximately 200 meters from the attack site. Evidence such as tiger paw prints and other clues were found at the location of the body. The Department of Wildlife and National Parks (Perhilitan) received a report of the incident around 4.30pm, prompting a search operation commencing at 6.30pm.
The search involved police from Lintang police station, Malaysian Volunteers Corps (Rela) members, and around 30 villagers and logging workers.
