GTA participates in conference on fiscal policies and economic development

Doha, Qatar - The General Tax Authority (GTA) took part in the Fifth International Conference on Fiscal Policies and Economic Development held in Qatar. Organized by Qatar University in collaboration with the Authority, the conference ran from today until September 23, 2026. It brought together a distinguished assembly of experts, researchers, representatives from international financial institutions, universities, government bodies, and consultancy firms.

Khalifa bin Jassim Al Jaham Al-Kuwari, President of the GTA, delivered an opening address. He emphasized the significance of the meeting as a platform for dialogue, where knowledge, experience, and research intersect with practical application. This meeting, he noted, unites scholars of policy-making, practitioners implementing policy, and those affected by policy outcomes.

The GTA's President further elaborated on their focus on building an efficient and reliable tax administration. They aim to streamline procedures and enhance digital services. They also strive to develop capabilities and leverage data to inform decision-making. The Authority views partnerships with Qatar University and research institutions as crucial in aligning efforts with national economic priorities.

The conference explored tax transformation, particularly the challenges faced by taxpayers and tax authorities as countries strive to enhance tax revenues for development financing. Discussions centered on tax reform programs, including legislation development and tax administration modernization. The focus was on restructuring tax systems in the Gulf Cooperation Council countries, boosting taxpayer compliance, and improving tax administration efficiency.
