Ghanaian Times Bono Regional Correspondent wins 2 awards

Daniel B. Dzirasah, the Ghanaian Times Bono Regional Correspondent, was honored with two prestigious awards at the 4th Bono Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards ceremony held in Sunyani. He received the Best Reporter in Mining and Best Development-Focused Reporter awards for his exceptional reporting in 2025. His work centered on advocating for a Gold Festival to promote responsible mining practices and the ongoing delay in the construction of the Bono Regional Library project spanning over two decades.

Eight other journalists, including freelance journalist Edward Adjei Frimpong, were also recognized during the event. The overall Best Journalist accolade was awarded to Lawrence Yeboah Gyan, a reporter from Wisdom FM, a campus radio station affiliated with the Catholic University of Ghana, near Sunyani. Other notable award recipients included Precious Semevor of Joy News, Claude Kumi Abisa from TV3, Ali Biiya Mukusa from the Daily Graphic, and Jasmine Akwaboah of Moonlite FM, the only female participant in this year's competition.

At the ceremony, National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, emphasized the need for increased support to media institutions to uphold professional standards and independence. He stressed that journalists should be financially independent from those they cover. Bono Regional GJA Chairperson Regina Benneh Siaw called for action to address the rampant illegal mining (galamsey) in the region, which damages vital natural resources.

Bono Regional Minister Joseph Addae Akwaboah acknowledged the media's crucial role in advancing Ghana's development agenda. Other distinguished guests present included the Member of Parliament for Banda and Minister of Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, the CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme (NEIP), Eric Adjei, and Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, Vincent Antwi Adjei.
