General : Budget 2027: Higher Allowances Proposed For Disabled Workers, PPDK Staff - Nancy Shukri

Shah Alam, September 22 — The Women, Family and Community Development Ministry, also known as KPWKM, has suggested raising allowances for disabled workers and personnel at Community Rehabilitation Centres (PDK) for the upcoming Budget 2027, according to Minister Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri. She emphasized the ministry's dedication to providing necessary support to individuals with disabilities (PwD) and those engaged in caregiving to enhance their overall well-being.

"For PDK trainers, we have recommended an increase in allowances, although approval has not been granted yet. We will have to await the Budget announcement to ascertain if the proposal will be approved," she stated. The majority of PDKs rely on external donations and support from local representatives, which is why elected officials frequently bring up the issue and advocate for higher allowances to aid the communities they serve, Nancy explained during a press conference following the closing ceremony of the Able for Disable Programme and the presentation of certificates for the AEON Job Coach Introduction Course 2026.

Ahead of the presentation of Budget 2027, her ministry expressed the hope that its proposal to strengthen the care economy would be approved. "We aim for this to be a successful program for those in need, including PwD and those caring for PwD, so we eagerly anticipate the approval of our proposals," she added. During her speech at the event, Nancy called upon all parties to move beyond merely employing PwD and instead focus on unlocking their potential and career growth.

She highlighted the private sector's crucial role, given the multitude of employment opportunities available, and urged employers to evaluate the capabilities and contributions that PwD could bring to the table. "Simultaneously, I urge organizations to involve the PwD community in planning an inclusive work environment and employment system.

The principle is straightforward: we should not presume what PwD require without listening to their firsthand experiences," Nancy emphasized. In her accessibility agenda, the PwD community is portrayed as both users and partners in evaluating the solutions developed, as the true measure of inclusivity lies in the experiences of those who utilize the system, she concluded.
