G7 leaders condemn Houthi strikes on Saudi Arabia

G7 nations have called on Yemen's Houthi rebels to cease military actions against Saudi Arabia, expressing solidarity with Riyadh amid the escalating conflict. The Houthi movement recently took control of Yemen's entire Red Sea coast, including Mokha, posing a threat to global trade and energy prices. Iran and its allies have gained control over two key waterways, including the Strait of Hormuz, due to gains made by the Houthis.

G7 leaders emphasized that all threats and attacks against civilian shipping must stop, and Iran must end its support for the rebels. The war in Yemen, which began in 2014, had been frozen since 2022 but resumed in July, with Saudi Arabia leading the coalition backing the internationally recognized government. The conflict has resulted in one of the world's worst humanitarian crises.

Saudi Arabia's intervention has escalated tensions in the region. The Houthi movement, also known as Ansar Allah, is named after its late spiritual leader, Badreddin al-Houthi. Abdulmalik, one of his sons, is currently leading the group, demanding that Saudi Arabia not become entangled in a political and financial relationship with the Saudi enemy.
