Fire damages classroom at Chung Ling in Penang

GEORGE TOWN, Sept 22 — An unfortunate incident occurred at SMK(C) Chung Ling in Ayer Itam, Penang, when a classroom caught fire last night, leaving no casualties but causing 20 per cent damage. The Penang Fire and Rescue Department swiftly responded to the emergency call received at 7:54pm, deploying 12 personnel and three fire engines from the Paya Terubong and Lebuh Pantai stations.

Assistant Director John Sagun Francis of the operations division informed Bernama that the fire affected a classroom measuring approximately 20 by 30 square feet. He confirmed that no school activities were in progress at the time of the fire, and no casualties were reported. The blaze was completely extinguished by 8:40pm, after which firefighters conducted additional checks to ensure no further hazards remained.

The operation concluded at 9:22pm, and the case was subsequently handed over to the Fire Investigation Team for a thorough examination. The cause of the fire and the full extent of the losses are currently under investigation.
