Fire damages classroom at Chung Ling in Penang

George Town, September 22 — A classroom at SMK(C) Chung Ling school in Ayer Itam experienced a fire incident last evening, with no reported injuries. The Penang Fire and Rescue Department dispatched 12 personnel and three fire engines from the Paya Terubong and Lebuh Pantai stations in response to an emergency call received at 7:54pm.

According to John Sagun Francis, the department's operations division assistant director, the fire affected a classroom measuring approximately 20 by 30 square feet, resulting in an estimated 20 percent damage. He confirmed that no school activities were ongoing at the time of the fire, and no casualties were reported. The fire was completely extinguished at 8:40pm, following which firefighters conducted additional inspections to ensure no further hazards remained.

The operation concluded at 9:22pm, and the case was then forwarded to the Fire Investigation Team for further examination. The origin of the fire and the full extent of the losses are still under investigation, according to John.
