Family says man was beaten to death after being questioned about Kempton Park murders

Vusimuzi Radebe, a quiet man, was brutally beaten and killed while walking home in Witbank on September 19, according to his family. The incident occurred after Radebe was questioned about his home and place of origin, following assumptions made about him due to recent violence in Kempton Park. His family believes the recent violence in Kempton Park led to wrongful assumptions about him.

Radebe, who lived in Kempton Park and returned from his grandmother’s home in Kwaguqa, was walking from Kwaguqa to Lynville when he was questioned and subsequently killed on the scene. The family describes him as a quiet person who simply wanted to go home and stresses that his death was an unjust tragedy. Radebe's mother, Perfidia, and father, Sipho, were originally from Kempton Park and Lynville respectively, before moving to Kempton Park in the early 1990s and returning to Witbank about a month ago.

The tragedy of Radebe's death comes amid a series of killings in and around Kempton Park, with nine women's bodies discovered across Ekurhuleni over two months. The SAPS has confirmed the ninth body and is investigating potential links between the cases, though no single perpetrator has been confirmed. The Radebe family has appealed for any witnesses or information regarding Radebe's last moments, emphasizing that his death was a personal tragedy for his family.
