President William Ruto of Kenya held discussions with Austrian Chancellor Christian Stocker in New York, focusing on expanding cooperation between the two nations. The talks covered various areas including trade, investment, labor, and artificial intelligence. Ruto emphasized Kenya's commitment to issues like debt sustainability, climate finance, digital trade, and regional security during his participation in the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) proceedings.

The meeting took place on the sidelines of UNGA 81, where Ruto was leading Kenya's agenda on investment, job creation, digital cooperation, and global institution reforms. Both countries have a long-standing relationship based on shared interests and mutual respect, and they are now seeking to broaden economic cooperation. Ruto highlighted that the structured bilateral labor agreement between Kenya and Austria is creating new opportunities for young people, particularly in international markets.

Discussions also extended to cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, encompassing its governance to ensure responsible harnessing of emerging opportunities. Ruto further outlined Kenya's push for a more significant African role in global AI governance, cautioning against over-reliance on technology. Additionally, Kenya and Austria are collaborating at the multilateral level to reform the United Nations and the international financial system, aiming for a more inclusive and responsive global framework.

The meeting occurred as UNGA 81 commenced in New York, under the theme of restoring trust in the UN and addressing global transformation through effective United Nations delivery.
