Ex-SGF Babachir Lawal Joins NDC, Takes Charge of North-east, North-central Campaigns

Former SGF Babachir Lawal has joined the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), a move driven by his concerns over insecurity, hunger, poverty and economic hardship, according to Sunday Aborisade in Abuja. Lawal, who resigned from the African Democratic Congress (ADC) earlier this year, declared that he had initially planned to retire from partisan politics, but was compelled to return after reflecting on the difficult conditions faced by Nigerians.

At a meeting with former Bayelsa State Governor and NDC National Leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, Lawal expressed his belief that any Nigerian with the country's interests at heart should support the NDC presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. The NDC praised Lawal's experience and appointed him to coordinate the party's political activities and campaigns in the North-east and North-central geopolitical zones.

In response to Lawal's defection, the NDC condemned alleged attacks on opposition parties and called for security agencies to ensure a secure environment for political campaigning.
