Ermittlungen in Niedersachsen: Verdacht auf Sprengstoff-Spuren nach Drohnenfund in Wunstorf

In Niedersachsen, investigations are underway following the discovery of drone parts near the Bundeswehr Flyover Site in Wunstorf, with suspicious materials believed to be explosive residue. Security sources suggest traces of explosives are under further examination, though their connection to the drone remains unclear. Earlier reports by NDR, WDR, and Süddeutsche Zeitung had indicated the drone might have been armed with explosives.

The suspicious material was found just a few meters from the drone, and criminal investigations into the substance's properties are ongoing. A spokesman from the Interior Ministry in Hannover referred inquiries to the General Prosecutor for further action. A spokesperson for the Karlsruhe authority declined to comment on request.

Investigators visited the challenging terrain in the Hannover region last week, assuming the drone had crashed and fragmented into several pieces. The drone's origin remains unknown, with the flyover site in Wunstorf being a key German military location home to the A400M fleet. Speculation arises about a possible link to the drone incident at Leipzig Airport.

Sources indicate a commercial drone was not used in Wunstorf but rather a custom-built aircraft. The resemblance to the Leipzig drone is noted, as is the site's proximity to Wunstorf, roughly two kilometers away. The suspicion of a Russian surveillance attempt emerged, as initially claimed. The Leipzig/Halle Airport incident involved a similarly prepared explosive drone found alongside Ukrainian cargo planes at the beginning of August.

The General Prosecutor's Office is investigating, with Russia denying involvement. The Wunstorf drone, found accidentally, may have been lying on the ground for an extended period, possibly even two years, according to local reports. A farmer reportedly discovered the device recently.
