Ella Langley’s ‘Choosin’ Texas’ Topples Mariah Carey’s Chart Record

On Tuesday, September 22, country singer Ella Langley achieved an unprecedented milestone by holding the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for an impressive 23rd consecutive week with her hit song "Choosin' Texas." Overwhelmed by the accomplishment, Langley shared a graphic on her Instagram Story showcasing previous record holders, expressing her astonishment with both a mind-blown emoji and a teary-eyed emoji. "23 weeks," she wrote, "Absolutely insane."

Introduced on the U.S. songs chart in November 2025, the track debuted at No. 39 and quickly took off from there. It achieved its first No. 1 position on the Hot 100 in February, but Langley's song has managed to reclaim the top spot on multiple occasions, ultimately surpassing Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" as the record-holder for the longest-running No. 1 hit on the Billboard Hot 100.

Langley recounted the creation of "Choosin' Texas" during an April interview with Billboard. While writing with Miranda Lambert, the duo drew inspiration from a memory she shared about her pet kangaroo. Lambert had once been pulled over by the police with the kangaroo in the passenger seat, who helped her avoid a ticket by telling the officer she had Texas plates. Intrigued by the story, Langley replied, "Well, she's from Texas, I can tell…" and a mere 45 minutes later, they had penned the song.

"Choosin' Texas" is a track from Langley's sophomore album, Dandelion, which spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The album has also performed exceptionally well on the Top Country Albums chart, logging 18 weeks at No. 1. Langley has previously expressed her admiration for the immense support she has received from her fans, stating that this moment marks the biggest milestone in her career, showcasing the power of fan support in propelling her to new heights.
