DSS asks court to dismiss El-Rufai’s no-case submission in wiretapping case

The Department of State Services, DSS, has requested the Federal High Court in Abuja to dismiss the "no case" submission made by ex-Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the wiretapping case filed by the Federal Government through the DSS. El-Rufai faces prosecution for allegedly intercepting the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu's conversations.

DSS's lawyer, Mr. Oluwole Aladedoyin, SAN, urged the court to compel El-Rufai to present his defense, citing the lack of merit in his claim of having no case to answer. Aladedoyin noted that by making the "no case" submission, El-Rufai had avoided Exhibit B, which DSS argues is El-Rufai's own admission. At Tuesday's hearing, El-Rufai's defense team, led by Mr. Paul Erokoro, SAN, adopted the "no case" submission, requesting the court to dismiss the charges against the former governor.

However, Justice Joyce Abdulmalik denied the request, refusing to grant a standdown and ordering Aremu to proceed with his arguments. Justice Abdulmalik has set October 26 as the date for ruling on whether to quash the charges against El-Rufai.
