Drug bust: I’m beginning to suspect NPP members may be involved – Mustapha Gbande

Mustapha Gbande, Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has expressed suspicion that some members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) might be involved in a recent illegal drug bust. Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show, Gbande emphasized that drug trafficking is a national security issue and urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation.

He stated that drug trafficking transcends politics and poses severe consequences for Ghana’s national security and intelligence systems. Gbande highlighted that the illegal drug bust concerns every Ghanaian and urged political actors to avoid politicizing the matter. He commended President John Mahama's approach, noting that the President was taking time to understand the problem and implement appropriate measures.

Gbande disclosed that the Presidency had activated processes to strengthen Ghana’s borders and pursue officials involved in drug-related crimes. He stressed that the responsibility for tackling drug trafficking should be shared by all stakeholders, including security agencies and institutions operating at Ghana’s ports. Gbande criticized the NPP for demanding protests, suggesting that some of their members may have been involved in the drug trafficking incident.
