Deliver grassroots development, Tinubu tells LG chairmen

President Bola Tinubu has called on chairmen of Nigeria's 774 local government areas to implement his administration's Renewed Hope Agenda at the grassroots level. Speaking at the maiden Annual National Conference of local government council chairmen in Abuja, Tinubu emphasized that the impact of government policies should be measured by the changes they bring to people's daily lives.

He recalled his experience as Lagos State governor, where his administration created additional local councils to bring government closer to the people. Tinubu's administration has pursued national development since 2023, believing that Nigeria cannot develop solely from the center. He highlighted the Supreme Court's affirmation of local government autonomy in July 2024 and urged council chairmen to promote crucial sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and small businesses.

The President emphasized the responsibility that comes with local government autonomy and urged chairmen to engage with community leaders, religious figures, and security agencies to maintain peace ahead of the 2027 general elections.
