CTA confirm Atlético Madrid star should have been shown a red card vs Real Madrid

The tackle was poorly timed and involved Lee's studs being directed high up the Uruguayan's ankle.

Despite the apparent severity of the incident, no yellow card was issued to Lee. The faulty call was quickly cleared by the VAR officials, but it was later confirmed as an error. According to The CTA (Technical Committee of Referees) in Spain, the correct response should have been a direct free kick and a direct red card. The report adds that the mistake was "clear and manifest" and that the VAR officials should have intervened.
