Connecticut high school star Aaron Sabato called up to Minnesota Twins roster, makes MLB debut

San Francisco, CA - September 21: Aaron Sabato, a former Connecticut high school baseball standout, was called up to the Minnesota Twins roster on Monday and made his Major League Baseball debut later that evening. The 6-foot, 230-pound first baseman, who stands at only 230 pounds, was selected by the Twins' front office after a stellar college career at North Carolina.

Despite coming up in the middle of the season, Sabato immediately made an impact, starting at first base in the Twins' series opener against the San Francisco Giants. Sabato's impressive minor league statistics, including a Triple-A single-season franchise record of 29 doubles and 55 extra-base hits, led to his call-up. The Twins originally assigned No. 31 to pitcher Justin Lawrence, but Sabato will wear the number for the next week.

Growing up in Greenwich, Connecticut, Sabato attended the prestigious Brunswick School and then moved on to North Carolina, where he maintained a .700 slugging percentage and hit 25 home runs during his college years. The Minnesota Twins drafted Sabato in the first round of the 2020 MLB Draft, and he has been developing in their farm system ever since.
