Confirmation hearing report adopted for SME minister nominee

On Tuesday, a parliamentary committee approved a confirmation hearing report for the nominee to become the minister for small and medium enterprises (SMEs). This approval resulted in her appointment without delay. The report, which pertains to Lee So-young, was unanimously adopted by the parliamentary trade committee. However, the main opposition People Power Party (PPP) had reservations regarding Lee's suitability for the position.

Their concerns stem from doubts about her eligibility, stemming from unresolved suspicions surrounding the acquisition of her apartment and her perceived lack of expertise in SME policies. Despite these concerns, the PPP acknowledged Lee's previous efforts to eliminate unnecessary business regulations and her active involvement in parliamentary activities aimed at fostering sustainable growth.

Lee is a two-term lawmaker from the ruling Democratic Party of Korea. She was selected by President Lee Jae Myung as part of a Cabinet reshuffle in late August. Prior to her nomination for the SME minister position, Lee was recognized for her career as a climate and environmental lawyer.
