Chief justice rejects presidential office request to re-recommend Supreme Court justice nominee

Supreme Court Chief Justice Cho Hee-dae has declined to recommend a replacement nominee for a Supreme Court justice position, even when requested by the presidential office. The chief justice expressed that he could not find any valid constitutional reasons to comply with the request. In a previous incident, the presidential office had asked Chief Justice Cho to suggest a new candidate, after they were dissatisfied with his initial recommendations of two Supreme Court justices to President Lee Jae Myung.

However, Chief Justice Cho criticized the request's document, stating that it lacked specific reasons and constitutional justifications for the re-recommendation. Consequently, Cho firmly stated that he would not comply with the presidential office's demand, citing the absence of any concrete rationale for the request.
