Chentsov briefs EU member states on Ukraine's reform progress towards membership

Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Vsevolod Chentsov met with EU Council of the EU Working Party on Enlargement representatives in Brussels to present Ukraine's progress towards meeting its commitments in the EU accession negotiation process. The focus was on legislative work, reforms in the rule of law, and fulfilling obligations to protect national minority rights.

Chentsov stated that Ukraine is moving into the phase of practical implementation of the many commitments made. To achieve this, coordination between the government and parliament is being strengthened, and close cooperation with the European Commission and member states continues.

The Verkhovna Rada currently has 114 European integration bills under consideration, with the government and parliament adopting a more systematic approach. Special attention was given to rule of law reforms, including criminal proceedings, anti-corruption agencies, the prosecutor's office, judicial system integrity, and anti-corruption policy.

Chentsov emphasized Ukraine's ongoing work on meeting interim benchmarks, which involves systematic coordination of reforms, monitoring their implementation, and resolving issues requiring additional attention. He also briefed member states on Ukraine's fulfillment of obligations regarding national minority rights protection. The government has updated the relevant Action Plan, with steps focusing on education by the end of 2026 and language and political rights in 2027, all in consultation with national minority representatives, the European Commission, and member states.
