Carney pledges $100 million in new aid for Palestinians

Prime Minister Mark Carney announced that Canada will be providing $100 million in new aid for Palestinians in Gaza and the West Bank. The funding, which includes $80 million in humanitarian aid, will be used to support security initiatives and a multi-year training project for Palestinian police. Carney made the announcement at the United Nations General Assembly, stating that the funds aim to contribute to a two-state solution.

He acknowledged the "immense human suffering" experienced by Palestinians in Gaza while also recognizing the "existential threats" faced by Israelis from Hamas and Iran's proxies. Since the start of the Israel-Gaza war in October 2023, Ottawa has pledged over $600 million in aid for Palestinian civilians. Recent documents released in Parliament reveal the damage inflicted on numerous Canadian-funded aid projects by Israel's military and settlers.
