Bryce Young's heater represents first for Panthers since Cam Newton's prime

The Carolina Panthers have long known that their most recent top overall pick, Bryce Young, was a special talent. Coming out of college, Young was ready to step onto the NFL stage and make an impact immediately. However, it took time for the 26-year-old quarterback to truly reach his full potential. According to Tyler Sullivan at CBS Sports, Young has put on a show, completing 23 of 26 passes for 287 yards and three touchdowns in a victory against the Atlanta Falcons. This marks the first time since 2017 that a Carolina quarterback has thrown for three-plus touchdown passes in back-to-back games. Cam Newton, the quarterback who helped lead the Panthers to the playoffs in 2017, is the only other player to have accomplished this feat.

Newton's 2017 performance was nothing short of impressive, culminating in a season with 11 wins, 3,302 passing yards, 22 touchdowns, and only 16 interceptions. While the statistics may not fully capture the impact Newton had on the team during his prime, the fact remains that Young is currently on pace to surpass Newton's numbers this season. Through just two games, Young has already thrown for 648 passing yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception.
