Blue Jays center fielder Brett Bateman injured while making sliding catch against Orioles

Toronto's final push for a playoff spot is facing several obstacles. The Blue Jays have been dealing with health issues for Dylan Cease and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Rookie outfielder Brett Bateman was injured during a game against the Orioles on Monday night. Bateman made a sliding catch in the second inning, but his awkward roll after the catch raised concerns.

He managed to walk off the field slowly and was replaced when Toronto took the field again. The Blue Jays entered the game trailing by three games from the Chicago White Sox for the final wild card in the American League. Guerrero is out of the lineup due to back trouble, and starting pitcher Trey Yesavage played only two innings after returning from knee inflammation.

Cease is also dealing with shoulder issues and his potential return to starting games this season is uncertain. The Blue Jays acquired Bateman in an August trade for Kevin Gausman. Since making his debut for the Blue Jays on August 7, Bateman has hit .320 in 38 games.
