Bhayandar Land Dispute Involving PM Modi’s Schoolmate Continues Despite Mehta-Linked Firm Giving Up Claim

In Bhayandar, a land dispute involving Asgar Ali Vora, a childhood friend of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, persists despite MLA Narendra Mehta’s company affirming that it has relinquished possession of the property. Vora, who purchased 2,810 sq m of land in Navghar, Bhayandar East in 1989, claims that Swayam Builders and Seven Eleven Constructions’ Seven Eleven Constructions took possession of the land in 2011.

After meeting with Prime Minister Modi on September 8, Vora filed a complaint against Mehta, leading to the company's surrender of rights and cancellation of construction permissions. However, Vora alleges that the land remains in the possession of Mukesh Parekh and Mervyn Fernandes, developers involved in the dispute. The Shiv Sena has filed a complaint against Seven Eleven Constructions, Mukesh Parekh, and Mervyn Fernandes, resulting in a non-cognisable offence being registered by the Navghar police.

Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik has accused Mehta of retaining possession of the land through associates. Vora has approached the district collector to cancel the Transfer of Development Rights (TDR) granted to Mehta on the property and to initiate a detailed inquiry. Seven Eleven Construction Pvt. Ltd. has issued a clarification detailing the full ownership history and current status of the property, emphasizing that it does not hold any connection to the land or Vora.
