Bengals Film Room: Cashius Howell isn’t playing like a rookie

The Cincinnati Bengals selected edge rusher Cashius Howell in the second round of the 2026 NFL Draft. During training camp, Howell made an impact, even though he only played in one preseason game. In that game, he teamed up with Kris Jenkins Jr. for a sack against the Detroit Lions. His signature spin move was already causing issues for offensive tackles.

At the Bengals' season-opening victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Howell managed just one pressure, but he should have been credited with .5 of a sack with Jenkins. The Buccaneers attempted to slow him down with a tight end, which proved to be a poor decision. Howell's explosiveness was on full display, allowing him to generate quick pressure.

Howell's performance against the Houston Texans was particularly impressive, as he was credited with six pressures in the game. He demonstrated his ability to pressure the quarterback from both sides of the line and logged as many snaps as starter Myles Murphy. Despite not yet having a sack credited to him, Howell's impact has been undeniable.

It would not come as a surprise to see him have a two- or three-sack game soon for the Cincinnati Bengals. Early returns on this draft pick indicate that the Bengals made a home-run selection, and Howell could be in contention for Defensive Rookie of the Year honors if he continues to perform at this high level.
