Autobahn Rent A Car charged with keeping two de-registered vehicles

Autobahn Rent A Car faces four charges concerning two de-registered vehicles. One charge per vehicle accuses the company of keeping the cars after their registration had been cancelled. The second charge alleges the company failed to provide proof that the vehicles were exported or scrapped within a month of the cancellation. The first vehicle, SLA7909K, had its registration cancelled on March 16, 2026.

The second vehicle, SKZ4586H, saw its registration cancelled on January 21. According to a Housing & Development Board notice in the Government Gazette, a silver Toyota with the registration SLA7909K was discovered abandoned, detained, and set for disposal one month after the Gazette's date. The court case was heard by District Judge Shawn Ho, with a Land Transport Authority hearing set for October 13.

Penalties for keeping an unregistered vehicle include a fine of up to S$20,000 or two years in prison, while a second offence doubles the penalty. If a vehicle's registration has been cancelled, the owner must prove the vehicle has been removed from roads, destroyed, or exported within one month of the cancellation to avoid fines of up to S$2,000 or imprisonment for up to three months.
