[Asian Games] S. Korea beat Saudi Arabia to win group in men's football

NAGOYA — On Tuesday, South Korea defeated Saudi Arabia 2-0 to clinch victory in their group, the men's football tournament at the Asian Games. In the second half of the match at Nagoya City Mizuho Park Rugby Field in Nagoya, central Japan, Shin Min-ha and Kim Myeong-jun scored in the final minutes. Coach Lee Min-sung led the under-23 Taegeuk Warriors, who are aiming for the country's fourth consecutive gold medal.

Both teams had already qualified for the quarterfinals by winning their opening matches. Group D, the only one with three teams, was the only group with three teams, while the other three had four teams each. The top two teams from each group advanced to the quarterfinals, and South Korea and Saudi Arabia secured the top two spots after Saudi Arabia lost to Qatar 2-0, ensuring Qatar would finish last.

South Korea did not register their first shot until the 22nd minute, and they struck the Saudi Arabian goal a few more times in the closing minutes of the first half. In the 67th minute, Shin headed home the opening goal, with Eom Ji-sung contributing to the team's success.
