Apple Music Hall Spatial Audio Venue Opens in Battersea Power Station

Apple Music Hall, a cutting-edge 600-capacity music venue, has opened its doors in Battersea Power Station, London. Apple describes the space as designed to foster connections between artists and fans through unique, intimate performances unlike any other. Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Apple Music and International Content, highlighted the company's long-standing passion for music, from the iPod's launch to the iTunes Music Festival and the introduction of Apple Music.

Apple Music Hall represents another significant step in the company's dedication to artists and fans, offering a novel approach to live music support. The venue draws inspiration from historic oriel windows, featuring heritage brickwork, fluted arches, and bronze balconies. A large glass wall further connects the building to its surroundings, providing an expansive view of the concourse and the river.

The 38-foot-wide stage can be adapted for traditional front-facing sets or more dynamic in-the-round performances. A 48-speaker spatial sound system surrounds the audience, while a dedicated recording and mix studio captures every show as a multi-track recording, ready for Spatial Audio mixing, either live or post-production. The venue is also equipped with 16 or more cameras, feeding a broadcast control room to support iPhone video capture alongside standard broadcast cameras.

This comprehensive setup ensures artists can perform live, record their show in Spatial Audio, create a broadcast-ready mix, and capture multicamera video – all within the venue. Apple promises performances from the venue will also be livestreamed worldwide, allowing fans outside of London to enjoy shows from their favorite artists.
