All the President’s men and women pay this personal cost during service

The personal cost for an aide-de-camp (ADC) to the President of India is significant, according to retired Major Rishabh Singh Sambyal. Sambyal, who served as an ADC to President Droupadi Murmu for about three years, revealed that he is not allowed to marry while holding the position. He explained that the "no marriage" rule is a voluntary requirement to ensure the ADC can focus 24/7 on their duties without personal distractions.

Although he grew to enjoy his solitude as an ADC, Sambyal noted that loneliness can be a challenge. He also mentioned that his rigorous training and the nature of his job often led him to view everyone with distrust. As the first woman ADC, Lieutenant Commander Yashaswi Solankee, was appointed by President Murmu in a move aimed at promoting women's empowerment and gender parity.

Currently, there are five ADCs in total, with three from the Army and one each from the Navy and Air Force.
