Adelle Waldman Is the 2026–2027 Paris Review Visiting Professor at the Bard Prison Initiative

Adelle Waldman has been appointed as the 2026-2027 Paris Review Visiting Professor at the Bard Prison Initiative (BPI). BPI has been offering a tuition-free liberal arts education to incarcerated students in upstate New York since 1999, with over four hundred students across seven campuses. In 2024, a partnership was formed between The Paris Review and BPI, allowing a renowned creative writer to teach literature to BPI's students.

Waldman will teach three semester-long courses over the next year, succeeding Javier Fuentes. Her first course will focus on Jane Austen, whose wit and social observations have inspired Waldman's own work. Waldman's second novel, Help Wanted, was inspired by her experience working at Target and reflects on the experiences of big-box store employees through various perspectives.
