Acer CEO says PC prices could drop in 2027

Acer CEO Jason Chen has forecasted that PC prices could start to decline by late 2027, in contrast to the predictions of other major memory manufacturers. This optimistic outlook stems from his belief that the ongoing RAM shortage, caused by surging demand from AI data centers, will begin to ease by the end of the year. Chen attributes the current price hikes to an incentive to maintain profit margins, rather than a genuine supply issue.

He notes that the supply of most RAM and SSD types has now caught up with demand, with real shortages primarily affecting high-end components. Despite this, Chen anticipates that PC prices will still rise by 5 percent to 20 percent in 2027 before any potential relief. His forecast contrasts with industry analysts' expectations, who suggest prices may continue to climb through 2028.

Chen also highlights cheaper supply from Chinese manufacturers such as CXMT, which Apple has reportedly considered as a supplier despite its blacklisted status. While the outlook varies, consumers should be prepared for continued price increases until any real relief materializes.
