Yu, 13, breaks record again with second Asian Games gold

In Tokyo, 13-year-old Chinese swimming sensation Yu Zidi shattered another Asian Games record, winning her second gold medal in as many days at the 2026 Asian Games. Yu Zidi raced to victory in the women's 200m individual medley with a time of 2 minutes 06.10 seconds, 0.72 seconds faster than the previous Asian Games record and just 0.40 seconds shy of the world record.

This performance marked her second consecutive gold medal, following her win in the 200m butterfly earlier in the week. Yu expressed her excitement and happiness, attributing her success to her team's hard work. She finished 1.89 seconds ahead of her compatriot Yu Yuting, who took the silver, while Japan's Mio Narita secured the bronze.

Yu's achievement made her the youngest swimming world championships medallist in history when she won bronze at 12 years old as part of China's 4x200m freestyle relay team. Despite her impressive performance, Yu acknowledged that there were still areas she needed to improve, such as adding certain points to her conscious execution.
