Wike to Emerge APC Campaign Council Coordinator for FCT, Rivers

President Bola Tinubu has assigned former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, a specific role in his 2027 re-election campaign. The former governor is expected to serve as the coordinator for the campaign structure in both the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and Rivers State, while still maintaining his membership in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

This arrangement aims to leverage Wike's extensive political network without formally incorporating him into the hierarchy of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The decision comes amid a disagreement between Wike and several APC governors regarding how support for Tinubu should be organized ahead of the 2027 elections. Wike has consistently maintained that he does not require membership in the APC or a position in the party's Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) to work for the President's re-election.

The proposed campaign structure will consist of a Director General, Abdulaziz Yari, who will handle day-to-day operations, while former Zamfara State Governor, Abdulaziz Yari, and Senate President Godswill Akpabio, along with Deputy Senate President, Jibrin Barau, will not report to him.
