Why watch Asian dating shows when you can be in one? Meet Malaysians Yuki Chong and Olivia Law in ‘Wingman’ (VIDEO)

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 — Malaysian Olivia Law and her friend Yuki Chong, both 25 and 29 respectively, have become part of Mediacorp's new reality dating show Wingman after stumbling upon an online casting advertisement. The pair, from Johor and Singapore, respectively, bring different perspectives to the show: Chong, a marketing professional and content creator, had little experience with reality television, while Law, a finance professional, regularly watched Asian dating shows.

As part of Wingman, a 12-episode reality dating show drawing on the popularity of dating shows across South-east Asia, the pair were paired together as "wingmen." Law served as the single seeking a partner, while Chong assisted her by creating opportunities for connections and helping her overcome shyness during the process. The show, filmed over 15 days in March, featured challenges that tested the friends' ability to navigate the dating experience and live in a villa surrounded by cameras.

Both women learned valuable lessons beyond dating: Chong discovered the importance of separating her experiences from viewer opinions, while Law gained confidence in seizing opportunities outside her comfort zone. The experience has opened a connection to the regional entertainment scene for the two friends, with Chong continuing her content creation and dance pursuits, and Law focusing on travel, lifestyle content, and potential opportunities in acting and variety programmes.

Wingman, now available in Malaysia on YouTube and the Mediacorp platform, has given the two Malaysians the chance to experience being part of a Singapore production with a wider South-east Asian audience.
