White Sox keep pace in the AL Central with a rain-soaked 8-1 win over the Tigers

The Chicago White Sox maintained their position in the AL Central and eliminated the Detroit Tigers from playoff contention with an 8-1 victory on Sunday. Sam Antonacci contributed significantly with a two-run double and a crucial RBI single in the fourth inning. The White Sox, now one game behind the Cleveland Guardians, hold a three-game lead over the Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays for the third wild card spot.

However, their win came at a cost, as the game was delayed by rain for 3 hours and 50 minutes and most of the action took place in a misty atmosphere. Davis Martin dominated the mound, pitching 4 1/3 scoreless innings, though he did not secure a win, extending his winless streak to 15 appearances since June 10. Huascar Brazoban stepped in for the victory, pitching a perfect sixth inning.

Trevor Richards set a major league record with his 205th relief appearance, pitching two innings for 1 1/3 innings or more. Braden Montgomery opened the scoring with an RBI double in the second, followed by Kyle Teel's RBI single that drove in Antonacci in the fourth. Chase Meidroth added a 15th home run in the fifth, a two-run blast to left field.

Max Clark sealed the win with a sacrifice fly in the eighth inning. Detroit starter Troy Melton allowed three runs on four hits and three walks over 3 2/3 innings before leaving early with an injury. Eduardo Valencia contributed three hits for the Tigers. The Tigers have not yet announced a starter for their Monday opener against Washington.

The White Sox are off on Monday before starting a three-game series in Kansas City, with Anthony Kay slated to start the first game.
