What is OneTag? Switch FASTag bank, retain same tag; fresh KYC, get refund

A new facility called 'OneTag' has been launched by the Union minister Nitin Gadkari, allowing motorists to change the bank issuing the FASTag without having to remove and replace the physical tag. This portability feature, launched at the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, simplifies the process for NETC FASTag users who want to switch their issuer bank.

Users can retain the same FASTag and simply switch to a different bank, making the process smoother and more efficient. Under the existing system, motorists had to close their current tag and go through a new onboarding process when changing the FASTag issuer, which included obtaining a new physical tag. Now, with OneTag, users can keep the existing tag while changing the issuer, as long as they complete a fresh KYC process.

Once portability is completed, the existing Tag ID and vehicle registration number remain unchanged, and the new bank handles the onboarding and services. The facility is accessible through NHAI’s Rajmargyatra mobile app, which guides users through the various stages of the transfer, including verification and wallet onboarding.
