Weather alert: Partly cloudy and cool to warm conditions for Tuesday

Tuesday, 22 September 2026 brought partly cloudy and cool to warm weather to most provinces in South Africa, according to the South African Weather Service (Saws). Isolated showers and thundershowers were scattered throughout the day. The weather service has not issued any warnings for the day.

In Gauteng, residents can expect partly cloudy skies with cool to warm temperatures and isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers. The UVB sunburn index is expected to be "high", so precautions against sun exposure are advised.

Mpumalanga will have cloudy conditions with morning fog over the Highveld, but will be partly cloudy and cool with isolated showers and thundershowers elsewhere. The Lowveld will be warmer.

Limpopo will start the day cloudy in the morning with fog patches along the escarpment. It will be partly cloudy and cool to warm with isolated showers and thundershowers in central and south-eastern areas.

North West residents can anticipate partly cloudy and cool to warm weather, with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

In the Free State, morning fog patches are expected in the east and along the Lesotho border, followed by partly cloudy and cool to warm weather with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

The Northern Cape will have morning fog patches in the south, followed by partly cloudy and cool to warm weather with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except in the northwest.

Western Cape will see cloudy mornings with fog along the south coast, transitioning to partly cloudy and warm to hot conditions with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers, except in the extreme south-west. The UVB sunburn index is predicted to be "very high".

In the eastern half of the Eastern Cape, morning fog south of the escarpment will give way to partly cloudy and warm conditions with cool temperatures along the coast and isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers.

KwaZulu-Natal residents will experience morning fog over the interior, transitioning to partly cloudy and cool to warm weather with isolated afternoon showers and thundershowers. The UVB sunburn index is expected to be "high".
